Where is Wood from??

Wood derives from woody plants, trees. Wood from the latter is only produced in small sizes, reducing the diversity of uses. Wood is a hygroscopicm cellular and anisotropic material.

Uses for the woods!!!

Wood has been used by man long time ago for many purposes, being many things to many people. It used as a material, for making artworks, boats, buildings, furniture, ships, tools, weapons, etc. Wood has been an important construction material since humans began building shelters, and remains in plentiful use today. Construction wood is commonly known as timber an also lumber. Wood may be broken down and be made into chipboard, engineered wood, hardboard, medium-density fibreboard (MDF) , paper or used to make other synthetic substances.

Different Woods

There is a strong relationship between the properties of wood and the properties of the particular tree that yielded it. For every trees species there is a range of density for the wood it yields. There is a rough correlation between density of a wood and its strength (mechanical properties). For example, while mahogany is a medium-dense hardwood which is excellent for fine furniture crafting, balsa is light, making it useful for model building. The densest wood may be black ironwood.

Wood is commonly classified as softwood or hardwood. The wood from conifers (e.g. pine) is called softwood, and the wood from broad-leaced trees (e.g. oak) is called hardwood. These names are a bit misleading, as hardwoods are not necessarily hard, and softwoods are not necessarily soft. The well-known balsa (a hardwood) is actually softer than any commercial softwood. Conversely, some softwoods (e.g. yew) are harder than most hardwoods.

What is a brick???
A brick is a ceramic block made of kiln-fired material, usually clay or ground shale. Clay bricks are formed in a mould (the soft mud method), or more frequently in commercial mass production by extruding clay through a die and then wire-cutting them to the proper size (the stiff mud process).
These bricks are known as hydraulic-pressed bricks, and have a dense surface which makes them highly resistant to weathering, and thus suitable for facing work. The shaped clay is then dried and fired to achieve the final, desired strength.
In modern brickworks, this is usually done in a continuously fired kiln, in which the bricks move slowly through the kiln on conveyors, rails, or kiln cars to achieve consistent physical characteristics for all bricks. Bricks are also known in the building trades as compressed earth blocks.

Use of the Bricks
Bricks are typically for building. It was also popular to pave roads with bricks, but they were found incapable of withstanding heavy traffic. Brick paving is again coming back into use as a method of traffic calming or as a decorative surface in pedestrian precints.
Bricks are also used in the metallurgy and glass industries for lining furnaces. They have various uses, especially refractory bricks such as silica, magnesia and neutral refractory bricks. This type of brick must have a series of properties such as good thermal shock resistance, refractoriness under load, high melting point, satisfactory porosity (which can influence several other properties), all of which are high-temperature properties.

Stone has been used for building since the Stone Age. This was the first contruction material that the humans been used to care themselve from the weather, and animals. Stones are available in most areas than other material are, thisis the main advantage of it.

Other advantages are durability, adaptability to sculptural treatment, and it can be used in modest structures in its natural state. But it has disadvantages too, like difficult transport, and cut.

Exist many kind of stonework, for example:

RUBBLE is the simplest and cheapest stonework.

ASHLAR MASONRY is another one. This is the stongest and most suitable stonework for monumental architecture. This stonework consists of regularly cut blocks, colocated in rectangular form.

ENTABLATURE is the upper sections of a classical order that rest on the capital of a column.

Many stones are strong enough to provide monolithic supports as column and piers, and beams (lintels); and sometimes stones is used for roof, but it need many numbers of colunms to support it, for example in Egyptian temples use this form . Besides the stone is the most resistibble material. It support the deformation.
