Stones!!

Stone has been used for building since the Stone Age. This was the first contruction material that the humans been used to care themselve from the weather, and animals. Stones are available in most areas than other material are, thisis the main advantage of it.

Other advantages are durability, adaptability to sculptural treatment, and it can be used in modest structures in its natural state. But it has disadvantages too, like difficult transport, and cut.

Exist many kind of stonework, for example:

• RUBBLE is the simplest and cheapest stonework.

• ASHLAR MASONRY is another one. This is the stongest and most suitable stonework for monumental architecture. This stonework consists of regularly cut blocks, colocated in rectangular form.

• ENTABLATURE is the upper sections of a classical order that rest on the capital of a column.

Many stones are strong enough to provide monolithic supports as column and piers, and beams (lintels); and sometimes stones is used for roof, but it need many numbers of colunms to support it, for example in Egyptian temples use this form . Besides the stone is the most resistibble material. It support the deformation.
